Woody Harrelson, playing Beckett in the film, let slip a little more info on the type of character he is going to play. I’ll be honest, it surprises me a little.
In a recent interview, Harrelson discusses details we already know, but pay close attention to a little nugget that has yet to be revealed until now:
I’m totally crazy about making a Star Wars movie. But secrecy is on another level. What I can say is that he is a good character, he is a mentor to Han and a criminal, but good at heart.
Good at heart, eh? I will say that actors who play villains will sometimes say their characters are actually not evil, and they just have a different point of view from the “hero.” While that is true (Obi-Wan would probably agree), I have always believed this Becket character to be more of a villain in the “Han Solo” film.
Harrelson plays bad very well, but he also plays good pretty successfully. Becket seems like a good mix of the two and I know Harrelson will do great in the role. However, with this new information, maybe he’s more of a hero than I realized. If this is true, then who is the villain of “Han Solo?”
From the recent concept art leaks that show some Imperial ships, it might be a good chance the Empire will be the villain. But haven’t we seen that a little too much already? I’m ready for some Bounty Hunter and underworld-type bad guys. I would love to see the Hutts play a huge role in this film. All three parties could very well be in the film and provide the conflict for Han Solo.
There’s also a chance that Han could be his own enemy, in a way. We have yet to see Han in his infamous “scoundrel” personae as it’s always been told to us. The movies and books depict Han as a man out of his element. He has a heart of gold, but he keeps pining for his smuggler days. Was he truly a cold-hearted scoundrel? How bad was he really? I hope we get to see the real anti-hero antics of Solo in this film. Frankly, what we got of his “old self” in the prequels was a bit soft. Maybe if he actually shot Greedo instead of shooting second, this wouldn’t be an issue. I wont go there!
Either way, I’m sure it will be a good movie. The jury is still out on whether or not I will like Alden Ehrenreich as Han. I hate to be the fanboy here, but recasting Solo is such a touchy subject. Ehrenreich is a good actor, but this goes beyond that. But hey, I’ve been wrong before!
He kind of looks like Harrison Ford, right?
What are you speculations for the Untitled Han Solo movie? We have about a year before it comes out, so we should know soon enough if our theories hold true!
